The Farmhouse, an original homestead located 48kms from Bulawayo on the Matopos Road, was converted into a lodge providing accommodation with a restaurant, bar and pool, in 1996. The lodge offers double or single room accommodation for up to 24 people, in 12 individual cottages, located along a path at the base of a beautiful outcrop of granite boulders. Although the cottages are not self- catering, they do offer tea and coffee making facilities, with a fridge, and a private braai area. When guests wish to self cater with these amenities, the lodge does provide cutlery and crockery and a flat pan for the braai, which is ideal for bacon and eggs. Each cottage has en-suite shower, toilet and wash-hand basin, with an open plan lounge.
The main entertainment area overlooks the indigenous garden and rock swimming pool, as well as the open camp fire in the enclosed traditional boma, for those relaxing evenings of star gazing while awaiting your meal. All the meals are served in the restaurant, where the chefs specialize in healthy, home-cooked meals, which can be catered to personal dietary requirements.
The Farmhouse also has a 10mx5m Conference room, built under thatch, with French doors opening on to the garden and charming courtyard. The lodge has basic conference facilities, including computer projector, and the lodge is equipped with Wi-Fi internet services.
There are many activities offered at the near-by Matopos National Park, including Game Drives with Rhino Walks, Rhodes Grave and Bushman Cave Site Tours, and Cultural Tours. On The Farmhouse property itself, they offer a Bush Walk and Cave Painting Tour, Game Drives, Mountain Bike Trails, Geocaching, as well as the very popular Mabazvi Climb up to the top of the rocky outcrop behind the lodge.
The fact The Farmhouse is only 30 minutes’ drive from Bulawayo, and in the heart of the Matopos World Heritage Site, makes it an ideal location from which to explore the surrounding historical sites at your leisure.
