Sango Tented Expedition Camp

Sango Tented Expedition Camp is located in the SAVE Valley Conservancy in the South Eastern part of Zimbabwe.  The Conservancy was set up to establish a sanctuary for the intensive protection of black and white rhino and has become one of Africa’s most successful black rhino breeding programmes.  It is also one of the rare locations in Zimbabwe where you have a chance of seeing all of the “big five.”

Sango is located in the northern section of the Conservancy.  Quickest access is via the main Masvingo  – Mutare road (A9) to the north, but if you are traveling from Bulawayo, then the A10 road from Chiredzi to Chisimbanje would be an option. The roads in the conservancy are dirt, but well maintained.  There is an airstrip too for those wanting to fly in, located at S20 28 0 – E032 12 00 with a runway of 1000m which can accommodate anything from a Cessna 207 to a King Air.

This camp is a stunning little camp located on Sango, which is a privately owned 60,000 hectare property in the Save Valley Conservancy.   Sango Tented Expedition Camp consists of three large comfortable Deluxe Sahara tents with open air bathrooms attached. The tents inside are comfortable and simple but very chic.   The en-suite consists of a flush toilet, a traditional bucket shower, a basin as well as a teak vanity in each bathroom.   Each tented bedroom has an open front patio area overlooking the bush, with a couple of chairs in which to unwind while enjoying the view.

There is a wonderful central dining area and bar/fireplace where guests can relax, soak up and enjoy the beautiful surroundings and amazing night skys.  Water is supplied by borehole and is therefore safe to drink.  For guests travelling with valuables, a safe is located in the central area where items can be locked up.

The camp is NOT linked to the national grid, so power is supplied via solar.  The camp does have multi-plug adaptor for charging of mobile devices.  Water is heated on wood boilers and delivered to the tents in buckets.

What makes Sango so unique is the opportunity to be guided by one of Zimbabwe’s top professional guides who will be able to offer you private guiding, private game drives and walks as your activities while in camp.  This tented camp is a little gem of a camp surrounded by large herds of giraffe, buffalo, elephant, black and white rhino, wild dogs, impala, kudu, eland, amazing birdlife and so much more.
