Our Heartveld Adventures During Lockdown – Instalment 1

Who on earth would have guessed this time last year where we would be now?  That the entire world would be affected by an awful virus called Covid 19?  That no country, no matter how small, or where in the world it is located, would be untouched by it?  I most certainly wouldn’t have believed it if you had told me.  But, yet here we are.  And although it has been devastating in so many ways, in my view, there has been a lot of good that has come from it too.

It has taught us each to appreciate the little things in life once more.  With the hustle and bustle of busy life removed, it has given us time to spend with our family, whom we might have grown distant from, citing the lack of time in a day to truly appreciate each other’s company.  It has given us quality time to spend with our partners, reminding us of their unique personalities and why we fell in love with them. Making us fall in love all over again. It has enabled us the joy of waking up in our own time – not to the alarm clock, to listen to the birds and watch the sun rise from the comfort of our beds.  And then we have had the luxury of being able to have coffee and breakfast IN bed, what a treat!  It has given us light-hearted picnics and camp-outs in the back garden, with our children, or in our case our “fur-babies.”  It has enabled us the time, and inclination, to finally learn how to make Irish coffee and cook pizza in the old wood stove, bought many years ago but only used twice!  And my personal favourite has been the time to do nothing better than relaxing with a sundowner, listening to the evening sounds of birds and wild life calling, while having deep and meaningful (or sometimes very silly) conversations with my loved ones.

It has been many months since I have written a blog, but while going through my photos the other day, I realised that we have not stopped living, and although it might not be the usual blog of some adventure we went on, this entire time in our lives is actually an adventure.  Those of you who know me well will know one of my favourite sayings is “life happens while you are busy making plans – this IS your life.”  So, with that in mind, here are some pictures as the first installment of a little blog to go with what we’ve been up to while in our various stages of lock down here in Kariba, Zimbabwe.
