Nanzhila Plains Camp was the very first camp to be built for what is now the well-known Nanzhila Safari Collection. It is a lovely camp to combine with the most recently added Nanzhila Lake Camp. Both camps are family owned and run, which always brings a more personal touch and experience to a stay.
Nanzhila Plains Camp is in the southern part of Kafue National Park and is most popularly accessed from Livingstone. The transfer time will differ through the seasons, with May and June potentially taking an extra 90 minutes whilst you by-pass the floodplain roads. From July, in a normal season, the direct route through the plains opens up. Flying from Livingstone to the southern Kafue is possible BUT generally only an option if your group is between 5 – 9 passengers, as there is only a Caravan available for private charter permanently in Livingstone.
Thatched Chalets
The accommodation chalets are more spacious than the tents, with en-suite bathrooms that have flushing toilets, hot water (by donkey boilers), and double basins, combined with a vanity and dressing area. The rooms come with a queen bed or twin beds. These chalets do not have a verandah area as the view from inside the chalets is uninterrupted by the bush.

Safari Tents
The safari tents are a bit smaller but also have en-suite bathrooms that have flushing toilets, hot water (by donkey boilers) and a single basin. The rooms come with with a queen bed or twin beds. A popular feature is the covered verandahs on the rooms, to make the most of the dambo views.

The most popular activity at Plains Camp is the birding, with sightings of the Black-cheeked Love Bird, Wattled Crane, Racket-Tailed Rollers and Pel’s Fishing Owl, their bird list is over 500 species strong! Of course you are most welcome to also do the Game Drives and there is the chance of seeing 4 out of the Big 5 too! As from the beginning of the season walking safaris have been re-introduced.
