Nanzhila Lake Camp is the most recent addition to the well known Nanzhila Safari Collection and is a great add on to a stay at Nanzhila Plains Camp. Nanzhila Lake Camp in the southern part of Kafue National Park, on the shores of Lake Itezhi-tezhi which is most popularly accessed from Lusaka. Transfers can be arranged from the central part of the park down either the spinal road OR the Itezhi-tezhi road which is the same road we would use when booking your Lusaka transfers. This effectively connects Lusaka and the Central Kafue to the Southern Kafue. If you would prefer to fly from Lusaka, the Skytrails seat rates to the Kafue allow you to fly into Ngoma Airstrip – a 60 minute drive to Lake Camp or 90 minute game drive down to Nanzhila Plains. Both these transfers doubling up as a game drive.
Nanzhila Lake Camp is open from 1 March to end of the new year weekend and consists of 4 chalets, one of which is a larger family chalet consisting on 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The camp can accommodate from 2-10 people in total, but there is a minimum age policy of 7 years old due to the wild nature of the camp.
The main entertainment area consists of a thatched open plan building overlooking the Musa River and Lake Itezhi-tezhi shoreline. There is limited Wi-Fi available in the main area, not in the chalets. You are able to plug in your electrical devices in the main area for charging.
The accommodation chalets consist of safari tents under thatch, with en-suite bathrooms that have flushing toilets and hot water (by donkey boilers), combined with a vanity and dressing area. The rooms come with either one queen size bed or two single beds. All the beds are made up with cotton sheets, duvet (extra blankets available). A popular feature is the covered verandahs on the rooms, to make the most of the views.

The most popular activities at Lake Camp are the Game Drives along the shoreline of Lake Itezhi-tezhi, which take in the expansive floodplains. Boat cruises on the Musa River and Lake Itezhi-tezhi are an added activity that is unique to this area of the Kafue National Park. Walking safaris and fishing have been introduced at Lake Camp this season.
Lake Camp will offer game drives and visits to the Elephant Orphanage and of course the variety of bird and wildlife species compliments the Nanzhila Plains experience perfectly! So we suggest doing a combination of both Lake and Plains Camps to get the full experience.
