Nambwa Tented Lodge

Nambwa Tented lodge is part of the African Monarch Collection of Lodges, whose motto is “Authentic Experiences in the Zambezi.” All of the lodges are known for their uniqueness and how they make the most of the surrounding bush, blending in and doing as much as possible not to impact the wildlife in a negative way.

Nambwa Tented Lodge is located in Bwabwata National Park, on the banks of the Kwando River, in the heart of the KAZA region in Namibia. The closest town is Katima, which is 120kms away. Access to Nambwa is either by boat (which is our preferred way as it affords you a leisurely half hour trip in which you can relax and take in all the sights and sounds of the Kwando River) but you can also drive in to camp from Kongola, this will take around 45 minutes, but please note a high clearance 4×4 is essential.

Our favorite feature of Nambwa is that it is built among the indigenous Jackalberry, Kigalia, Camelthorn, Marula and Knobthorn trees, 4-6 meters above the ground, ensuring that the wildlife can pass, undisturbed under the lodge. The wooden walkways leading to the 10 luxurious en-suite rooms offer an opportunity to observe the animals in their natural environment, without disturbing them, all the while yourself feeling safe and content. Many happy memories have been made at the central entertainment area which boasts 2 lounging areas, an alfresco dining area, as well as a sunken fire-pit with stunning views across the floodplain.

For those that find communication essential there is WiFi available at the main area.

The accommodation is made up of:

• 10 x Luxury Tented Suites
• 2 x Meru Guide/Pilot Suite Tents

The Luxury suites each have:

• En-suite bathroom with shower, freestanding bath tub, double hand basins and a private toilet;
• Fans in all the rooms;
• 220v plug points for charging equipment;
• Hair dryer;
• Dressing gowns;
• Mosquito nets;
• Personal laptop safe;
• Private lounge area;
• Outside viewing deck;
• Complimentary mineral water;
• Tea and coffee station with hot water and homemade biscuits personally delivered to your room upon request in the morning.

African Monarch prides itself on working well with the local community and there are many exciting projects to showcase this. At Nambwa one of the activities on offer is the Sijwa Project Sustainability Tour where you get to EXPERIENCE how the community works and benefits from this center which has been created for the re-purposing and recycling of all the lodges’ waste.

Other activities on offer are:

• Morning or afternoon game drives;
• Morning or afternoon boat cruises;
• Bush walks;
• Bush breakfast or brunch (minimum of 6 pax);
• Special sundowner set-up (minimum of 6 pax);
• Romantic picnic in the bush (maximum of 2 pax).

Nambwa additionally has a lovely campsite located right on the river bank offering gorgeous views with beautiful big trees offering ample shade. With elephants, hippos, hyena, giraffes and resident leopards roaming the area, you are sure to have an unforgettable stay. Nambwa is also known as the gateway to the rest of the Bwabwata National park and so is the ideal place at which to base yourself.

For those wanting an adventure in a different part of Africa, we would highly recommend Nambwa Tented Lodge. Give it a go!
