Linkwasha Camp is arguably Wilderness Safaris’ most luxurious and exclusive ‘Classic Camp’ in Zimbabwe and is ideally located inside Hwange National Park, in the south-eastern section, on a private concession. Linkwasha has the famous Ngamo Plains within its concession, which is well known for the exceptional game viewing. Access is either by 4×4 self-drive vehicles or a private charter in to the Linkwasha airstrip.
Due to the fact that Wilderness Safaris wanted to keep their impact on the environment as light as possible, the camp structures are built with minimal use of concrete. Composite decking material is used to substitute timber for the decks, floors and walkways. The main entertainment area has the dinning room, bar and lounge under canvas, on a raised wooden deck overlooking the pool, firepit and pizza oven. This whole area then looks out over a water hole, which always has some sort of wildlife milling about. A bonus feature of Linkwasha is its winter lounge which has a generous library, with lots of reference books, and a fantastic Jet Master fire place.
There are 9 canvas tented rooms for accommodation (plus 1 tour leader/guide’s tent), on a raised deck, comprising:
- 8 x twin-bedded canvas tents each with two three quarter beds, mattress converters are available that transforms twin beds into king-size beds. (To be arranged prior to arrival.)
- 1 x family canvas unit consisting of two tents (a main bedroom and a living room that can be converted into a second bedroom) each with their own bathroom.
- 1 guide/pilot/tour leader tent, comprising of 2 x three quarter beds, with a shared bathroom.
All of the bedrooms (aside from the tour leader/guide’s room) have en-suite facilities, comprising of indoor shower with an inward opening door which gives the illusion of an outdoor shower experience, canvas roll down blinds for all weather conditions, with double vanity basin, writing desk and chair, luggage rack, mosquito net, an electric blanket provided during winter months, electronic safe, hairdryer, tea and coffee making facilities, mini-bar, indoor lounge area and private viewing deck with outdoor seating area. The rooms are also kitted out with air cooling unit as well as additional ceiling and mist pedestal fans.
Linkwasha is on the national power grid and also has a back-up generator. Water for showers is produced from a borehole and filtered by an energy efficient system. It is then heated by solar geysers. All the rooms and main entertainment area are linked by a combination of sandy pathways on the ground and raised wooden walkways.
When it comes to activities, Linkwasha has so many to choose from, one of the most popular is the excursion to the sunken hide at the waterhole in front of the camp as well as the Star Bed at Scott’s Pan. Many amazing photographs have been taken at the sunken hide, and this now ties in very nicely with the newest activity on offer, the Wilderness Safaris and Olympus Photo Hub experience.
