Kubu lodge is located on the banks of the Chobe River in Botswana and is ideally situated in the heart of the KAZA region, only 2kms from the confluence with the Zambezi River where 4 countries meet(Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe). The closest town is Kasane, which has pretty much everything you will need regarding groceries if you are planning an onward self-catering/camping trip. The entry gate to the Chobe National Park is a mere 13km away and there is easy access via an excellent road network to three international airports close by (Kasane – 15 min, Victoria Falls – 1h15min, Livingstone 1h15min.) Kubu Lodge is the perfect gateway to a classic expedition across the Chobe National Park to the enigmatic Savute and onwards to Moremi Game Reserve and the Okavango Delta.
The Kubu Lodge grounds cover 30 hectares of land (Forest Reserve), mostly undeveloped and is a sanctuary for the Chobe Bushbuck, which you often see from the comfort of your private deck! Our favourite feature of Kubu is the individual chalets – which are all built up on raised wooden decks. The chalets overlook the impressive rolling grounds leading down to the Chobe River, giving guests the ideal location in which to relax and enjoy the bird-life and relaxing atmosphere.
The accommodation is made up of 11 wooden thatched chalets as below:
- 2 Double Bed Chalets (with a twin bed in as well)
- 3 Double Bed Chalets (double bed only)
- 3 Triple/Twin Chalets (3 twin beds)
- 2 Twin Chalet (2 twin beds)
- 1 Family Quad Chalet (2 twin beds and 1 bunk bed for children 4 – 11yrs)
- An en-suite bathroom with shower, flush toilet, basin, hot (electric) and cold running water and hairdryer;
- Standing and ceiling fans in all the rooms;
- 220v plug points for charging equipment;

*Please note the lodge is not wheelchair friendly.
Kubu has a fantastic atmosphere, and there are various areas to explore and relax in and around the property. Down by the river there is a lovely pool, with pool loungers under the trees. Towels are available from reception.
The main entertainment area of the lodge has the restaurant, which consists of an indoor dining room, with an adjacent lounge and bar. A two tier wooden deck allows for meals to be set outdoors. A separate “braai” (barbecue) area leads to a small boma that is available for private dinners. When not in use, the boma may also be used by guests to enjoy their tea/coffee around the fire.
Situated behind chalet 7, is an intimate Summerhouse/Reading Lounge that has some comfortable chairs, magazines, books and board games as well as a writing desk to use for writing the postcards, a cool spot to relax in on a hot summer’s day.

Kubu Lodge ensures that it gives back to the local community and for the last fifteen years the lodge has been the home of Kazungula Children’s Ark. This not-for-profit organisation runs a daycare center on the property for small children at risk. It provides education, food, and most importantly love for young children whose social circumstances are not ideal. Kubu Lodge strongly supports the idea of community upliftment through tourism, and if it takes a village to raise a child then Kubu Lodge intends to help raise as many village children as possible. A visit to the center can be arranged on request to witness firsthand the dedication and devotion of the teachers and volunteers. Donations in any form are greatly appreciated. Other worthwhile projects they participate in are: Pack for a Purpose and the CARACAL wildlife rehabilitation centre.
Kubu Lodge really is a special lodge that offers a very relaxing and intimate place to stay near the Chobe National Park with easy access to all the surrounding areas and activities.
