Kanga Camp is what African Bush Camps like to call their famous “armchair safari” camp. It is located in Mana Pools National Park, but as opposed to most camps – it is NOT located on the river, but rather inland on a private concession – with Kanga Pan being the only permanent water source for a 20km radius. Of course this perennial water source draws wildlife in, especially during the dry season. Hence the famous “armchair safari” – as you can view all sorts of magnificent wildlife from the comfort of your private deck.
Kanga Camp is easiest accessed via private air charter to Dandawa Airstrip, which is only 1 hour 30 minutes from the capital city of Harare, or 2 hours and 30 minutes from Victoria Falls, with a 30 minute game drive transfer to camp.
Kanga Camp is run on both solar power and generator power, with power charging facilities available in the main area. The main entertainment area has a bar, a lovely dining area, comfortable lounge areas, as well as a pool. Of special mention is the Seasonal Hide, this offers a different viewpoint of the Pan. There are also guide tents available.
The camp itself comprises 6 luxury tents in total (including a honeymoon and family tent). Each tent has the following amenities:
• Outdoor bathroom;
• Standing fan;
• Private deck;
• Mosquito net & repellent.
Kanga is booked on an all-inclusive basis, which means your payment covers your accommodation, meals, beverages, laundry, and activities. Excluded are your transfers (except by game vehicle from the Dandawa Airstrip), travel insurance, visa fees, flights, items of a personal nature and staff gratuities.
The activities on offer at Kanga are:
• Morning or afternoon game drives;
• Walking safaris (guides are armed when walking);
• Bird watching;
• Spotlight on the Pan at night.
*Please note – due to the wild and remote location, only children over 12 years old are allowed, but walking and canoeing safaris are restricted to those over the age of 16.
Kanga Camp is the perfect place to stay if you want to view wildlife from the comfort of an armchair. But remember – for those who are more energetic – you can still go on game walks and drives! There is something for everyone.
**Please note that Kanga Camp is closed from 01 December – 31 March due to heavy rainfalls and the migration of animals.
