Tintswalo at Boulders
It seems I have fallen behind on my blogs about our life in the tourism industry. You would have thought with COVID life would be a little quieter, in actual fact the opposite is true! COVID has added to the work load, as a “normal” booking can now be changed 2-4 times due to family or friends not being able to travel or falling ill. So, this means multiple cancellations, postponements and re-scheduling of accommodation, activities and houseboat trips that have been planned months (or sometimes years) in advance. Anyway, as I tell Woody – “it helps keep us out of mischief and our brains ticking over.”
In October this year we took a trip that has been on our “bucket list” for a while – we flew to Cape Town, South Africa. We had a fabulous 2 weeks there, getting to know the lay of the land, which was important as we had decided to expand Heartveld Adventures’ portfolio into South Africa and Cape Town was the ideal place to start. We had a pleasant flight, which included all the new protocols and were greeted by our good friends who immediately took us on a walk up the beach not far from where they live. What a great way to see Table Mountain.
After a couple of days relaxing we were off to view our first new villa – ‘At Boulders’ which is part of the Tintswalo Group. The drive from Cape Town took us over Chapman’s Peak, which was very scenic and we were lucky that the sun was out and the weather was good so the views were great. As the name suggests “Tintswalo At Boulders” is located overlooking the world famous Boulders Beach with its African Penguin colony, within the Table Mountain National Park Marine Protected Area. Simon’s Town is a mere 1.5kms from “At Boulders”, with Cape Town centre itself only about an hour’s drive away.
Upon arrival At Boulders there was quite a lot of paperwork to fill out due to COVID, but this was made less painful when we were given our choice of cool refreshing drinks, provided by the “honesty bar”. The villa boasts 3 levels with 9 en-suite rooms, which are each uniquely decorated and named after famous ships in line with the history of the area. Woody and I were in Victory, which is on the middle level, with your own personal courtyard. Our friends were in Grosvenor on the lower level with a sea view and small balcony.
Breakfast, Wi-Fi, coffee and tea as well as sundowner canapés are included in the price. Lunch and dinner can be served upon request but we had left it a little late to book dinner at the villa, so after the complimentary sundowner canapés on the main balcony, we headed into Simon’s Town to sample one of the local restaurants. The town is so picturesque and interesting, it’s a pity we didn’t have more time there, but we enjoyed our walk around the harbour while waiting for our table to become available. We had a tasty meal at the restaurant before heading back to the villa for a very comfortable night’s sleep.
The following morning we were treated to a huge breakfast on one of the balconies overlooking Boulders Beach. The sun was shining and we were soon off to explore and view the African Penguin Colony, which is literally a 3 minute walk from At Boulders when using their private gate to the penguin board-walk. The penguins were such fun to watch, and there is a cute little souvenir shop at the entrance to the board-walk where you can buy little bits and pieces to take home for family and friends. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay At Boulders Tintswalo and look forward to viewing and adding their other properties to our portfolio in the future. Stay tuned!
