Davison’s Camp

Davison’s Camp is named after the very first warden of Hwange National Park, Ted Davison, who dedicated 30 years of his life to the park and its animals.  It seems only fitting then, that this adventure camp of Wilderness Safaris bears his name.  Davison’s Camp is situated inside Hwange National Park, in the south-eastern section, on a private concession.  Access is either by 4×4 self-drive vehicles, or a plane into the Linkwasha airstrip.

The camp itself is made up of 9 meru-style safari tents (http://www.bushtecsafari.co.za/Products-Meru) and main area built under a grove of magnificent false Mopane trees.  The entertainment area boasts an elevated viewing deck above the dining room, lounge and bar, where you have a perfect view of the watering hole in front of the camp.   Another favourite spot to view game from is the wooden deck and fire pit located at the front of the main entertainment area.

Slightly off to the side is the pool area and traditional Boma.  The Boma is the perfect setting for dining under the stars.  In the colder months, portable wood heaters are used in the main area and knee blankets are provided during dinner, keeping you nice and snug while you enjoy the sounds of the African night.

There are 9 tents for guests, as per below description:

Of the 8 twin bedded rooms, the 2 x three quarter beds have mattress converters and so are able to transform the twin beds into king-size beds.  Each bedroom has a front patio overlooking the waterhole in front of camp, with a couple of chairs to unwind in while waiting for your meal call.  The en-suite facilities include an indoor shower, a basin and toilet.  All rooms have a fan and multi-plug adaptor for charging of mobile devices (although sadly there is no signal in phone camp), as well as hot water bottles and extra blankets in winter.

Davison’s is linked to the national grid, and therefore appliances like hairdryers and electric shavers may be used, so long as there isn’t a power cut.  If the power does go out, there is a back-up generator able to supply the whole camp.  The hot water is heated by electric geysers.  For guests traveling with valuables, individual canvas bags with padlocks (keys remain with guests) are supplied which are then stored in a central safe.

While waiting for your next activity, it is definitely worth popping in to the curio shop, which is located separately from the main area.  The aim of this shop is to showcase the talent of the local villagers and guests are able to support them by buying their crafts.  You are guaranteed that no matter what you decide to buy, it will remind you of a very special time spent at Davison’s Camp.
