Camp Mana

Camp Mana is located in Mana Pools, which is  a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the last truly wild parts of Africa .  Camp Mana is an owner run safari operator, with professional guides, first-hand knowledge of the area and more than 35 years’ experience.  Their ethos is to “touch the earth lightly” and leave as light an environmental footprint as possible, while providing very personal and memorable experiences in the wilderness.  In my opinion, they fulfil this 100%, if not 200%! Camp Mana provides not one, but TWO out of this world locations in which to choose your ideal adventure in Mana Pools.
The first of these locations is Camp Mana, an exclusive tented camp located on the banks of the Zambezi, overlooking the stunning Zambian mountains.  There are 8 en-suite tents, which are very roomy, with all the comforts you will need for a stay in the bush.  There is also a central dining and entertainment area, made up of a Bedouin stretch tent with Afghan influenced style. This is the ideal place to just relax and watch the ever-changing scene of animals coming down to the flood plain to drink and eat.

There are many things that make Camp Mana unique and different from the other camps in Mana Pools, one of which is the fact the camp is located in an area that has part of the vast flood plain in front of the camp – most of the other camp sites are on a raised bank, which limits flow of animals in front of the camp.  As Steve, the professional guide says, you don’t even need to leave camp to see your fill of animals, a lot of the time you see more game from the dining tent than you do on a game drive!

If you think Camp Mana is wild, then Camp Mana’s other location will blow your mind.  Camp Chitake is located 45km inland from the Zambezi River, at the Chitake Springs.  This is a unique water source that flows all year round making it a hive of activity for animals, especially in the dryer months.  Camp Chitake is a more rustic and intense mobile camp, with three 3x3m dome tents and shared shower and toilet facilities.  Chitake is well known for its phenomenal walking safaris, and this you most definitely cannot do without one of the professional guides Sunpath Safaris provide.

All of the staff and guides at Camp Mana have a passion and have specially trained to operate in the bush, which shines through.  They never get tired of ferrying drinks and meals from the kitchen area to the dining tent, ensuring your drinks are always cold and meals are hot.  A guide escorts you back to your tent in the evening when you are ready for bed, to ensure you don’t encounter any unwanted attention from your wild neighbours.  Mention has to be made that due to the wildness of these camps, there is a minimum age restriction of 14 years old, which is totally understandable once you have been to the camps and seen how close you are to wild animals. Whether you want the more luxurious Camp Mana experience, or the wilder Camp Chitake adventure, Camp Mana is most definitely my operator of choice in Mana Pools and if you can’t choose which camp to go to, why not do both!  We can tailor make your ideal package, including both Camp Chitake and Camp Mana.  As well as game drives and guided walks, Camp Mana also offer canoeing and Kariba houseboat excursions.
