A very unique lodge well worth the visit.
Upon arrival at Amalinda Lodge, you will get a chance to relax in the lovely reception area, before being personally escorted to your room. The first thing you notice about the rooms, is their absolute uniqueness. Each and every room is built specifically to incorporate the beautiful granite rocks INTO the room itself, some even have genuine rock art on the “walls” of the room. Skylights have been situated in key positions to make sure there is enough light in the rooms, so that they don’t feel at all dark and dull. The rooms all have their own tea and coffee making facilities, as well as a small fridge. Each suite has its own novel bathroom, some with indoor and outdoor showers or baths, as well as private verandas with stunning views.
Moving to the main entertainment area, your eyes are immediately drawn to the enormous dining room table, which has been custom built out of railway sleepers. If that table could talk, I wonder the stories it would tell? Adjacent to the dining room is the lounge and bar area, with a small nook that holds the library. If guests request, they may have their meal served in this little hide-away to have a more private occasion.
A hit with guests is the firepit area, which once again, it has been cleverly built around the boulders near the dining room area. It is the perfect place to enjoy a sundowner, after a day of tracking Rhino. But probably the most popular feature of the lodge, is the pool entertainment area, which boasts an infinity pool with the most amazing view. There is an outside bar located here, as well as a small conference centre and spa.
About 5 minutes’ walk away, is the Home-Stead, so named after the Stead family, who originally started the lodge 28 years ago. They raised their family in this gorgeous house, and although they no longer live there, they are still very involved in the lodge from their new location in Bulawayo.
The Home-Stead is surrounded by bush, offering those staying there the real African bush feeling. A small water-hole has been built to encourage game just below the decks that lead off of the guest bedrooms. The lounge, dining and kitchen are all open plan – providing a lovely social setting for the whole family. The Stead family have left up some of their family photos, which gives it that personal touch, and makes you feel like you have been specially invited into their home. This is the perfect house to delight the family as a holiday retreat.
Whether you are wanting to just get away from the hustle and bustle of city life, or are keen for an adventure and a special treat, Amalinda is most definitely a very unique lodge, and well worth the visit.
