Full Camp Description

Wildlife / Birdlife

This is Big 5 country – the Matusadona National Park is a designated IPZ (Intensive Protection Zone) for the highly
endangered black rhinoceros, albeit they are very elusive and difficult to find, we do have sightings of spoor when our on walks. Lion, buffalo or leopard can been sighted on activities and our concession is like a refuge for elephants and they are thus regularly seen, normally up close as they don’t feel threatened by our presence. Over 350 documented bird species, resident and migratory, including seasonal Narina Trogon (rare), raptors, owls, hornbills, plovers, herons, egrets, kingfishers, sunbirds and bee-eaters. We have a healthy population of hippos and crocodiles in the area. Lake fishing includes the legendary Tiger Fish, numerous Bream species, Cornish Jack, Vundu, Bottlenose and Catfish.

Safari Experience in Camp

An early departure from camp means rising with the sun and eating a light breakfast of toast, fruit and cereals with tea or coffee and heading out in our open game viewing vehicle. Longer distances are covered in the vehicle, stopping along the way to examine interesting spoor, photograph birds and mammals going about their daily business and disembarking when interesting fresh tracks are seen. For those interested in bush walks, our armed professional guide will lead you through the bush following tracks and clues. Depending on ‘the news’ and sightings, the morning game viewing can last from a couple of hours to six or more hours, driving and/or walking in different areas tracking the game in the area. Often pausing to photograph natures wonders in the clear light, found in this remote unpopulated area. Return to camp for brunch and siesta, regrouping in the mid afternoon for tea or coffee served with cake, thereafter heading out for a late afternoon drive, walk or sunset cruise. It is customary to pause to enjoy the sunset with a cold drink and relish the sights and sounds of nature. Fishing is also offered as an activity and we are able to supply basic fishing equipment and tackle. For the more serious fishermen, we recommend they bring their own gear and tackle with. As we are within an IPZ we do not conduct night drives.
