Serondela lodge is located on the Namibian side of the legendary Chobe River opposite the Chobe National park in Botsawna. This lodge offers spectacular game viewing and bird watching from the river itself. Situated 17 km from Kasane border, transfer is in the form of a relaxing boat cruise which gives you an hour and a half of scenic views of the Chobe River banks and its wildlife on both sides before reaching the lodge. For those wanting to drive in, guests are able to access the camp via the D3524 road which is just 12kms before the Ngoma border (this can ONLY be done in a 4×4 vehicle in the dry months of August to December.)
When you arrive at Serondela you will be taken up to the main entertainment area which is located centrally and at the front of the lodge, overlooking the Chobe River. This area consists of the bar, pool, dining area and comfortable seating spaces as well as a delightful little curio shop. Wi-Fi is available in this central area.
The lodge is fully catered with a well stocked bar with an excellent selection of drinks. The food is exquisite with an Italian flair, that comes from the staff being trained by the owner’s Italian mother (take note of the home grown basil plants on site!). The staff are very well spoken and courteous, and are noted for always giving their best service.
Accommodation is in the form of eight free standing chalets with one of the chalets being a family room. The en-suite rooms were built using eco-friendly sand bags with plastered walls and the rooms have a slightly arched tented roof offering a cool, comfortable living space.
Each bedroom has a twin/double bed with mosquito net, cupboard space, lock box, fan, tea and coffee facilities with a flask of hot water (not a kettle) as well as cold water. The rooms all have a small lounge area, as well as their own private patio with outside chairs and table which face the river giving each guest access to watch wildlife move along the river banks and flood plains. The en-suite bathroom has a shower, His & Her basins and a toilet.
Solar panels, inverters and stand-by batteries power Serondela lodge so is completely off the grid, and therefore appliances like hairdryers and electric shavers may ONLY be used until 17:00h. It is not advisable to drink water from the taps but drinking water is provided. The lodge is located in a wildlife area and therefore you need to be escorted to your room when it is dark.
The activities on offer include guided boat cruises in the mornings and afternoons with snacks and drinks, or sundowners, as part of the experience, as well as a guided visit to the nearby village to showcase the co-existence of local Namibian people and wildlife. Game drives in the Chobe National Park can be organised for the day of departure for guests traveling from Kasane. Serondela is in partnership with Kabulabula Conservancy and is part of the WWF and IRDNC Joint-venture program.
For those wanting to see a different part of the Chobe River we highly recommend Serondela Lodge, with it’s good food, beautiful views, wonderful game viewing (even from the comfort of your own room) and of course the personal service – what more could you want?
